Preview: Page 1 of a my new story

Currently writing some stories for a new ebook. Here's a little preview of page 1, comment your thoughts and share! -Juan.

The morning sky was clear and the birds were silent in the small city of Lessertown. The market was still closed and the city fountain had not yet begun to flow with its fresh (and quite tasty) cool water. Yet, for Mark, it made no difference. He was too busy worrying about important and relevant things, such as his writers block.

Now, Mark was no stranger to “writers block” after all, he was an established world-class author. However, like all writers, “writers block” is his worst enemy second to only the absence of his typewriter. ..And the absence of his whiskey, but that is another story.

“This blasted blockade is driving me nuts! NUTS!!!!”  He yelled frantically, almost to the point of insanity.

“Well those nuts better cough up the money you need to pay the rent!” yelled his landlady. He lived in the apartment directly above her and with a town as quiet as this you could even hear the sound of a pen falling. This was one of those moments where peace and quiet did more harm than good for Mark.

“Ha ha ha, don’t worry madam, your rent money is safe” he replied with a nervous chuckle.

“Blast! Now why did I have to yell out loud!” he whispered to himself.

“This town is too quiet! Anyone can hear what I am saying, how am I supposed to develop any story when nothing ever happens around here?”

“Wait a minute” he stopped and sat down on his desk. He began to repeat his last sentence over and over again.  Before long, he looked up and snapped his fingers…

“That’s it!” he exclaimed, “I need to get out; to explore other places” he began to walk in a circle thinking of all the places he could be gathering experience and inspiration for his story.

“Germany! There is a lot of history there! There are Castles and all of the interesting people to meet there!”
“And…he he, not to mention all the booze” he later whispered to himself licking his lips in anticipation of such glorious brews like Spaten and Franziskaner.

“I could go to China! Learn from the Buddhist monks how to meditate and find inspiration in all of nature.  That will surely help me in my writing!”

“Perhaps even Australia! Go deep into the outback, and learn from the aborigines the secrets of the mysterious Ayer’s rock and maybe even profit with a story of my own! Take that Robert Layton and Norbert Brockman; I can see it now, Mark’s Encyclopedia of legends!”

“Hey Mr. Legend, don’t forget to pay the rent before ya leave!”
And just like that, Mark went from being the author of the newest bestseller back to the poor, broke writer living in an apartment in Lessertown...
